Product Description
More than ever, travelers are encountering a different sort of landscape, one not only of nature but of technology. Wind Power in View is the first authoritative discourse on the aesthetic impact of wind turbines on the landscape and what can be done about it. It is a detailed and thoroughly illustrated discussion of the issue from several different perspectives. The book also provides an overview of the status of wind energy at the dawn of the new millennium, examines some of the ongoing battles, and offers guidelines on minimizing its visual impact.

Taking examples from the United States, Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, and Sweden, Wind Power in View is the first book to tackle the thorny land use questions raised by wind energy's hard won respectability. What will be the future of wind energy? Will it be welcomed as savior, or will it be opposed as a new-age intrusion on open space and landscape preservation? These 11 essays, international in nature and written by objective experts, address landscape issues in creative, original ways.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wind Energy, 9 Oct 2004
A well- written and interesting book written specifically on wind power. As a third year student writing a disseratation specifically on wind energy, this book has become one of my main points of reference. An essential for any enthusiasts, academic or just those with a general interest.

Comprising of 11 different opinion-based chapters each with a specific question in mind. Each chapter answers questions which commonly crop up in debates and answers questions many would not have even though of. Although written by American authors there are examples of wind power being used across the globe, with particular focus on the UK, Northern Europe, Denmark and Sweden.

Topics covered include:
Wind energy in the media, a brief hisory of wind energy , how wind energy and landscape identity are interlinked with particular focus on English landscape identity. How opinions of wind energy are formed, the techonolgy used and how perceptions and feelings could affect the future of wind power. Landscapes in Germany, society and wind power in Sweden, the successes of wind power using Denmark as a case study. Landscape and policy in the North Sea marshes, living with wind power in a hostile landscape and aesthetic guidelines for wind power in the future.

Overall an excellent book with lots of helpful and interesting information, colour pictures and is packed with relevant questions, themes and contrasting ideas to initiative further discussion and debate. :)
