I had to analyse a hypertext application. Nielsen's book Multimedia and Hypertext gave me the required information to complete this task successfully! Apart from students, this book is suitable for everyone who has something to do with hypertext and multimedia or who is interested in (one of) those two concepts. For the unexperienced readers (people who don't know anything about multimedia and hypertext) this book is an excellent introduction. Nielsen discusses, for example, the history as well as the future of multimedia and hypertext on the internet. Readers who are experienced in this field can learn a lot from Nielsen's user-friendly approach towards hypertext and multimedia. (Like in his book "Usability Engineering" the user is a central aspect in hypertext and multimedia design) In Multimedia and Hypertext Nielsen answers questions like: What is hypertext and how can we use it in different kinds of applications? How does copyright work on the internet? How can we organise large amounts of information in a user-friendly way? All this is richly illustrated with clear examples of modern hypertext & multimedia systems (both) in word and image.
