Product Description

Product Description

A practical guide to designing easy-to-use software, this text offers an on-the-job view of what it takes to create products, offering pratical tips and advice, instead of abstract psychological theory. The text targets a wide range of design issues, from taming the interfaces of database systems and the Internet, to using sound and animation effectively in multimedia. Throughout the text, the author offers techniques for controlling the growing complexity of computer software, and makes a case for intelligent design based on the needs of the real user.

1.0 out of 5 stars Superficial treatment of many important topics., 23 Aug 1998
By A Customer
With many pages devoted to chapter titles, large fonts, and liberal use of white space, this is more like a 100 page book than a 300 page book. (Not that title pages, whicte space, and large fonts are bad; but here it seems like most of the book). The author tries to cover over 100 topics. In that little space, no topic gets the coverage it deserves. Chapter after chapter read like unplanned, light coverage of user interface development. Maybe someone could pick up some terminology, but I don't think they would get much useful information.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for designing a UIs for Websites as well as software, 17 Mar 1998
By A Customer
I really found this book helpful in developing my understanding of User Interface design. Although it was written more for designing UI for software I found the examples and explanations VERY applicable to designing web sites. This book also keeps your interest, the author throws in quite a bit of humor. I HIGHLY recommend it!
