Product Description

Synopsis

This publication is written in an easy-to-use dictionary format and provides a concise reference guide to the vast range of criminal offences in England and Wales. It covers the powers of arrest, search and seizure available to police officers in dealing with offenders. This fully updated edition contains information on over 800 offences from over 200 Acts, Orders and Regulations. Entries are listed under keyword subject headings and a standard format is given for each: details of relevant offences and the Acts contravened, the maximum sentence applicable; the relevant police powers available; and definitions, notes and references. The book is written for use by operational police officers, special constables and those with an interest in policing law.

From the Author

Offences, defences, police powers and punishment
All you need to know about the laws of England and Wales as they are likely to affect you - driving law, animal law, the law relating to children, firearms, sexual offences, trespass, wildlife and much, much more. This book details over 500 offences and includes legal defences, police powers and the powers of the courts to punish. And all within 200 pages. This is not just a book for police officers but should interest anyone connected with, or studying, the criminal justice system in the U.K. It is also a useful aid to anyone falling foul of British law.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enhanced 2nd edition covering 800 offences and powers, 12 Dec 2001
This 2nd edition has brought the A-Z of Policing Law fully up to date and the work now covers 800 offences including legislation applicable to the Metropolis, the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 and the Vehicle (Crimes) Act 2001. If you are a police officer, special constable or criminal lawyer you will recognise that there is a need for a concise guide to the vast range of criminal offences which form the majority of your workload. This book uses an easy-to-use dictionary format to provide such a guide. Designed for users with some knowledge of the law, this book is aimed at those with their feet on the ground. The 2nd edition has also been adapted to give assistance to those police officers studying for their promotion examinations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A excellent resource for police officers and specials, 31 Jan 2000
By A Customer
A wonderful little book that's easily carried and still acts as an easy-to-read dictionary of offences and police powers. All the offences that any police officer is ever likely to come across in their day-to-day duties. It is even kept up to date through a web site... so that, unlike some other police law books, it will not need replacing every 12 months.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent must for the Police Officer on the street, 3 Feb 2001
The A-Z of Police Law, the title say's it all! It covers every aspect that you would need to know on the streets. It gives a clear and precise explanation of all the offences that are listed in the book. It does not complicate the law, and is very easy to understand.
