3.0 out of 5 stars Great for the novice rider, 19 Jun 2007
By Mr. D. C. Hanley (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As in line with the previous reviews for this book, I agree that it does not really provide much help to the experienced motorbike rider. If you don't know most of what is in this book then you shouldn't really be riding on the road at all.
However, for the novice rider, I feel that this book is an essential piece of kit. It shows you how to keep yourself safe while riding on the road by explaining where to position yourself in certain situations, and it details what dangers you should be looking for at bends and junctions etc. It also explains how to predict a possible dangerous situation by taking note of the approaching road signs and markings, and instructing you in the essential art of defensive riding.
Many of the riding skills and techniques highlighted in this book will be quite new to the novice rider, and reading this book will help them to understand the reason for doing them and help to prepare for when they decide to take their test.
The nineteen chapters will definitely help to make you a more skilful and safer motorcyclist even if you only absorb 50% of the information.
An ideal book for the 'new' motorcyclist.

3.0 out of 5 stars an OK book but not brilliant, 24 Sep 2001
By richardkidd1@hotmail.com (northern ireland) - See all my reviews
although this book covers most aspects of motorcycle riding, it is of limited use.- I am probably right in saying it is designed to be used in conjunction with other books, for the newcommer anyway. Topics covered included "on the road", traffic signs", "european travel". It is equally usefull for the new person and experienced rider.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic!, 19 Dec 2006
Although this is something you do have to read for doing your test - it's about as much use to the motocyclist, riding in rush hour traffic on a cold wet december morning in central London, as a grilled trout.
Nice pictures of men in bright yellow vests doing careful right turns.
