Scotland's early Saints flourished from the foundation of Whithorn in around 400 AD to the sack of Iona by Norsemen in around 800 AD. Whether by land or sea, the journeys of these intrepid travellers mark out Scotland's geography, cultural history and spiritual roots. Produced to mark the anniversaries of St Ninnian and St Columba in 1997, this guide also introduces lesser-known personalities. It takes the reader from Lindisfarne and the Isle of Whithorn in the south, right up to Orkney and the northern most tip of Shetland, on a journey into Scotland's heritage of British, Irish, Anglo-Saxon and Norse culture.
