1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this version, 6 Oct 2007

It's appalling. It is terribly written, and some of the information is remarkably inaccurate. But most importantly, it is no longer the official text for the Life in the UK test. For that (at the time of writing) you should buy the new 2007 edition. Fortunately, the 2007 edition is much better in any case: the glaring mistakes have been edited out, and the writing has been much improved. Unlike this version, it is probably worth paying £10 for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Readable and informative, if a little brief, 17 Nov 2006

I an UK native, so have no need of this book to get through the citizenship test - I bought it partly out of interest, and partly to help visitors from overseas.

The book is interesting and informative. As well as giving a simple framework for common knowledge, it's also handy to have around the house as reference for various organisations and contact details. I do believe that everything in here is something every British citizen should know - I suspect many natives are sadly lacking in some of the knowledge!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written., 12 Jun 2006

I would reiterate the comments made by asterix1968_uk. Chapter 1 is extremely poorly written, shockingly so. It is just a mish-mash of information, which is irrelevant for the test. Apparently only chapters 2, 3 and 4 are required for the test, which probably make up only a quarter of the whole book. Instead of the government selling a £2.50 booklet, it appears they wanted to pad the book out with extra information and charge everyone £10.
