4.0 out of 5 stars Awkward to start with, better as it goes on, 27 Jan 2000
By A Customer
This book, following on from Ironhand's Daughter, starts down a very different path at the outset. Sometimes you wonder whether you are actually reading the sequel. The twists in time using the gates are quite numerous and sometimes require some careful thinking. As the book goes on however, the story becomes clear and this book is a fine completion to this story, albeit, the plot unwraps slowly and the finale and wrap up are done over the course of 20 pages. In some way it all seems a bit too convenient, almost as though the author lost interest in the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read, 21 Mar 2007

I read this book some time ago and it really has glued in my mind. I read both this one and the prequal in order. They were both amazeing and David Gemmell really was a great Author. His books are the only ones that seem to keep me off computer games! With my short attention span that is quite hard.

--POSSIBLE SPOILER--

One thing I loved about this book was the ending. It isn't a obviouse match makeing of who different people end up with and as always there are main characters who do die, but die out fighting for what they beleive in like a true hero. I also love the mythology and religion involved. He makes a well detailed, but interesting world everytime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book from David Gemmel!!, 28 Dec 2000
By A Customer
This book was a great read and the characters had detailed descriptions and made you, in the end, feel as if you had know them. There were parts in the book that were confusing when talking about the gates, never the less a great book!
