5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!, 14 April 2007
By kaya j (U.K.) - See all my reviews
xxxHolic is definitely one of my favourite of all of CLAMP's series.

The story revolves around Kimihiro Watanuki, who can see ghosts/spirits. One day he meets the space time witch Yuko, who claims she can cure him of his 'curse'. As Watanuki soon discovers though, Yuko grants nothing for free. He thus agrees to work for her until he can pay the price of his wish, and only then will she cure him of his ability...

Chapter plots include customers who come to Yuko with their own wishes. Some of these stories are really chilling; both the problems they have as well as the price some of them end up paying...

Watanuki also always features, even in the stories that are more about Yuko's customers. His own story also progresses as the series develops.

The series on the whole isn't as sinister as it might sound though! It's actually quite light-hearted a lot of the time, even though the plot generally retains a dark edge. The supporting and main characters are very strong and well-defined. The artwork is really beautiful too.

What else can I say but that I can't recommend this series enough! There's just something about it that really draws you in. I've definitely found myself liking the series more and more as it progresses!

Im a bit of a newcomer to manga and after reading a few series I wanted something new as in something ive not watched the anime of and hadnt really heard of and ive read the obvious ones like Deathnote and Welcome to the NHK so i didnt really know where to go from there.

After reading the first one and finishing this one I would say it is good, so good i want to read on but i cant sa its for everyone. XXXholic, concerns itself with inter dimensional travel and divination in various forms making it an interesting manga to read but the plot could grow to be more conveluted if not dealt properly.

All in all, a good manga but hard to tell if it will be as engaing as NHK or Deathnote.
