Review
"Advance quote from Ben Rice, author of POBBY AND DINGAN, to follow"

Product Description
Sixteen-year-old Felix is bored and stressed. He's stressed about his 'A' Level results, stressed about working for that mad old bag Mrs Pretzel, stressed about what the future holds. He's also feeling mighty guilty about the possibly fatal combination of laxatives and scrabble tile (Z, ten points) he fed to Mrs P's spaniel, Vespasian. But it's not the stress or the guilt that initiates the bizarre quest that takes him half way around the world on a stolen debit card - it's curiosity. Felix is very curious about a statue he finds in the permanent clearance sale at 'The House of Crap' - a statue depicting a fat man and a sea otter in sexual congress. "Sea Otters Gambolling in the Wild, Wild Surf" is the story of where Felix's curiosity takes him, to Hong Kong, Tokyo, San Francisco; on a journey that challenges his preconceptions about the world, his plans for the future and his relationships with his family. Will he get home before his little sister discovers what he's up to? What'll happen to Vespasian? Will he get the passes he needs to get into University? Whatever!

4.0 out of 5 stars Made me feel young again, 15 Feb 2006
By A Customer
Books that make you laugh out loud are rare. This one does but it's more than simply funny. I loved the totally unique (bloody bizarre) premise and couldn't stop turning the pages to find out what happened next.

I'm in my mid (ok, late) 30s and this book transported me back to my youth when possibilities were infinite and I really could have dropped everything and stepped on the next plane out...

Loved the language and like to think I'm just a little bit more yoof for having read it. Whatever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Otterly Fabulous, 8 Feb 2006
By M. A. F. Turner "Mikey T" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
For all those rapidly ageing fans of “Goodnight and Loving” – as I am - this will come as something of a refresher, or at least at first glance it does… If you delve a little deeper you will discover not only a new vernacular but also a different proposition, a different basis if you will. “Sea Otters” not only teaches us to speak as a Juvenile but also, hilariously, think like one and Felix’s adventures are nothing short of original.

Allied to this unique perception and “razor” wit we discover that not only is a much needed sequel required but also, by way of detail, as to how exactly the author fitted such words Unctuous and Obstreperous into the same book?

Whatever.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name, 10 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This book is not about otters or surfing - let's be clear about that. It is, however, the most original novel I've read for some time. It's a difficult one to pigeon hole for that reason. Add Holden Caulfield to The Da Vinci Code, throw in a pinch of bestiality, add a twisted sense of humour, then mull over for a couple of days and you'll realise you've probably just read the coolest book of the year. Destined to be a cult classic. Buy.
