4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Rainbow Fairies!, 21 May 2008
By Sarah D (London, England) - See all my reviews
Yes, it's another series aimed at little girls. But actually, these are more interesting stories. The idea is that a little girl goes to stay in her eccentric aunt's castle (as you do!). Aunt leaves her a note saying 'watch out for the princesses'. In each book, the heroine (I forget her name!) comes across a picture of a princess somewhere in the castle (could be on a rug, in the garden, a cushion cover etc.) and the princess comes to life. Rosie (I think that's her name) goes off on an adventure to help this princess sort out something in her world. And, you've guessed it, there's a happy ending all round! Each story takes the reader somewhere new - African desert, or icy Russia for example. The detail is good and the stories are relevant. My 7 year old, who isn't very 'girly' but likes to find out about different countries, really enjoyed the books, she found them exciting and they were the first books she actually read all by herself - willingly! Recommended. And a welcome respite from endless permutations of Jack Frost and the tedious Rachel and Kirsty. Hope Katie Chase is real and not a franchise!
