I found this book by accident in my local library and was immediately captivated by the illustrations, which are absolutely superb. They have a magical quality which matched the whimsical story, and I spent ages just finding all the visual jokes and giggles contained within them. A must-have for collectors of beautiful illustrations, and great fun to read and explore with a child. So I'm buying it. Janet S.

I read this book together with a group of third graders. They liked the story, which provoked some interesting discussions on life and death, and they loved the illustrations, especially when they had to try and identify symbols related to the story. (Note: It's not a long book)
