The poor heroine of this book, Patty, tirelessly pursues love. Unfortunately the man she is pursuing is gay although he did mislead her terribly by becoming engaged to her before emerging from the closet.
As the plot meanders on, the reader, of course, wonders what will happen in the end. But - horror! Just when the reader feels there is another chapter to go and love maybe around the corner for Patty the story ends because the wretched publisher of this book has used a full 37 pages at the end to advertise this writer's other books! So the reader who takes this book on a train or a plane or even in the bath will run out of story much sooner than she thought! I was rather annoyed to say the least.
Be warned.

Patty was so incredibly real and down-to-earth! I rooted for her all the way through the story...she felt like a sister. Elizabeth Berg possesses an unequaled talent for bringing the reader into the lives of her characters. I'm surprised & saddened by the disappointing reviews I've read here. This book is an absolute treasure!

It broke my heart when I read the other reviews and saw that someone could possibly suspect that an author as sincere and wonderful as Elizabeth Berg would write solely for the income. This is not kitsch; it's real. She writes to touch people. And does so incredibly. Kudos to Elizabeth for writing another beautiful book.
