Product Description

Review
The illustrations in this simply stunning book are so emotive that the accompanying words are barely needed... this heart-wrenching tale is a must-buy - South Wales Argus; A tender, appealing book with breath-taking illustrations by the author - The Sunday Tribune (Dublin); Skilfully told with a nicely curved poignancy. Binch's illustrations are as clear and zinging as a blast of ozone-filled breeze - The Independent; As a reader you feel you are looking at a real family and their life in a harbourside town - Nursery World; A beautifully illustrated, well-crafted story - Cork Evening Echo; Binch's illustrations carry the sensory appeal of life.... Figures appear caressed by the light that polishes cheekbones and limbs; sunshine crystallises the sand and glitters on the sea - TES; This is a moving story about a girl who has to confront her fears and cope with loss and change in the family unit - Teaching and Learning

Product Description
Genevieve lives with her mum and her brother Jack in a little stone harbour side house, but ever since the day that her daddy's fishing boat got lost at sea, she has stayed well away from the shore. Instead, she gazes across the harbour at the castle on the other side and dreams of being a princess. One day, a tall man arrives sailing a little boat with red sails. Genevieve's mum introduces him as Cedric, her new friend. At first, Genevieve is apprehensive but she sees the difference Cedric brings about in mum and slowly he becomes part of the family. So when Cedric suggests a family outing in his sailing boat, will Genevieve be able to overcome her fear and visit the castle she has long dreamed of?

5.0 out of 5 stars Just lovely!, 18 Sep 2008
By Steph (Sheffield, England) - See all my reviews
Beautifully illustrated, the story is set in Mousehole and Marazion in Cornwall and tells the tale of a little girl (who dreams of kings and princesses in the castle across the water) and the rebuilding of her life after the death of her father. It's a joy to read and the subject is tackled in a very real and natural way from the girl's point of view. My 4 year old loves this book.
