2.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings, 21 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Book started off well but after the umpteenth 'this will be covered later' or 'more of that in the next chapter' I started to lose interest in a subject which I find fascinating. I felt that a great deal of the book was devoted to the exploration of the small tunnels in the Queens chamber and how the author was 'back-peddling' from the responsibility of the exposure to the press. Lots of what look like holiday snaps scattered amongst hand-drawn sketches, for me, reduced the overall impact. If this subject grips you then this book is a worthwhile addition to your library, if it is just out of curiosity that you intend to buy this book then I suggest you look elsewhere. Heaven's Mirror and The Keepers of Genesis offer a better insight into the subject. I don't think Thoth would have this in his library!

4.0 out of 5 stars Awe inspiring, if a little complicated ...., 10 Dec 2000
By A Customer
As a relative novice (with half a brain) to the whole investigation of Secret Chambers and the dating of the plateau's conception/completion, I feel open minded enough to comment on Mr Bauval's in-depth guide and 'initiation'.

Mr Bauval expertly raises expectation in Part 1 of this book, carving a rugged path through a rich history of esoteric belief, Hermetic theory and what we commonly call 'history'. A fine balance is maintained between fact, both mathematical and historical, and that which is yet to be proven.

Part 1 is, for any (a)gnostic out there, packed with necessary and enthralling reading.

Part 2 however, sees Mr Bauval possibly dwell too heavily on clarifying his own position with regard to the release of the Secret Chamber Scoop to the press.

I for one have nothing but respect for the work that Mr Bauval, JA West, and G Hancock have done in bringing to our attention the closed-minded attitudes, alterior motives and 'golden handshakes' that have prevented truely interested people like myself from being kept informed. Moreover, I, based on the mathematical, geological and astronomical evidence that they have so CAREFULLY and OPENLY presented in their works, am a strong supporter of their theories.

The lengthy proof of his role in this affair was not necessary to us as readers enquiring about the likelihood of a Chamber and what mindblowing things may be held therein.

The last quarter of the book sees the author get back in the saddle, laying down a pattern of theory and evidence that we have come to expect from this obvious authority on the Giza Plateau.

Read this book and await further installments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusual, provokative and Pure Hermetic Magic!, 25 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Secret Chamber is an unusual and provokative work, bringing into focus the complex but magical notions of Hermetic Thinking and its origins in very ancient Egypt. It weaves a strange plot across the ages which, as if by enchantment, find its way to the peak of the Great Pyramid on the eve of the Millennium. Many will criticise this book. Many will love it. It is that kind of book. It stirs the mind and the soul and induces them to magical thinking. Love it or hate it. That's the sort I thrill to read. A wonderful Hermetic journey awaits those who are endowed with the ability to be awed by this world and it's past. There is magic at the Pyramids, and Bauval has sniffed it out. Well done!
