5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant thriller - superbly written & plotted, 15 Aug 2001
By A Customer
...Just read it, on holiday, and can honestly say it's one of the best police/thriller genre books I've ever read. Plenty of twists and turns, some good explanation of the geography and historical background,a plot placed in the context of a changing world order and some strong 3-dimensional characters all combine to make it a real cracker.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable "whats-going-on-here-then" novel., 27 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Not usually being a crime story lover following a few unsavoury incidents a few years ago, this brought me back into the genre nicely. Intelligent, engrossing, couldn't put it down. Nice surprise.

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent plot and beautiful prose, 7 Aug 2000
By A Customer
A chilling story, with a complex plot and intriguing characters, written in a prose that shows a consumate writer at work. Fans of Inspector Morse, will find the cerebral Cinq-Mars a equally apppealing hero. Rarely will readers find a a sense of place , in this instance, Montreal, more evocatively described.
