An introduction to a series which follows the pattern of amateur female sleuth becoming involved in an on/off relationship with the investigating officer of the murder which, naturally, our heroine, Rose, discovers. The beauty of Cornwall and the capricious nature of its weather are wonderfully evoked and the characters are people you would expect to meet in any small town. The odd slip in viewpoint now and then did not detract from the narrative, and I didn't guess the murderer until fairly near the end. I look forward to the next paperback.
