The 6x17 format Prior uses isn't to everyone's taste - somehow the angle of view is just that bit too wide for the eye, and brain, to take in in one go - but, boy, there are some breathtaking images here. One in particular, of An Teallach, is unforgettable, and a few others, such as the Forcan Ridge on The Saddle, viewed over crisp, virgin snow, are equally good. I also enjoyed the square 6x6 images, which, for me, have more poise. But, hell, I'd be chuffed if I'd taken even one of the pictures here, let alone the bookful. If you have even the slightest love for the Scottish mountains buy this book.

Colin Prior's photographs are rarely less than stunning. This book is a collection of his trademark large-format panoramic landscapes taken all over the Scottish highlands, supported by Linklater's sympathetic and informative prose about the granduer of the highlands and the hopes and problems the region faces. It is Prior's images that say most though, taken at all times of year and in all seasons, and this book is stunning.
