Product Description

Product Description

This work offers an irresistible, simple programme to maintain and improve mental sharpness. New research in neuroscience - the study of mind-brain function - has proved that, just as physical health and fitness can be transformed by diet and exercise, so there are positive strategies which can tune up your brain to maximum sharpness. It is also possible to avoid and even reverse the effects of mental aging. Key discoveries include: exercise actually grows your brain and improves your memory; the foods and vitamins that make you sharper; use your brain, don't lose it; unstress your brain - it doesn't like it; how to analyse your memory; and, do what absorbs you. Written by a leading neuroscientist, "Stay Sharp" is full of questionnaires and case histories to help you assess your brain capacity and is packed with tips and exercises to help you improve it. "Engaging and entertaining" - "Publishers Weekly".

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, 23 Jun 2006
I was hoping this book would be full of puzzles and games to improve memory and concentration. It is nothing of the sort. Rather it is a self-help book for the over-50s, very wordy, all about how you can help yourself to stay young by keeping fit, eating healthily, reducing stress, trying new things etc. I can't imagine who would find this useful - if you're the sort of person who would pick this up, you probably already know the stuff that's in it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp as a needle!, 3 July 2009

I bought this book to give me some guidance in kick starting my addled brain into action.
It is clear, easy to read and extremely practical.
There are well thought out quiz type activities throughout the book with suggestions and useful information, much of it based on scientific research.
I have already put some of the ideas into action and feel much more motivated and clearer about the steps that I should take to be a perky pensioner!
