5.0 out of 5 stars YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A POP IDOL FAN TO ENJOY THIS ..., 9 Jul 2004
By B. J. Fall "BeeJay" (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
You don't have to be rude but... is not just about Pop Idol or the Judges. It is about Simon Cowell and the knocks he had to take before he got where he is today. I loved it! Reading this made me realise why he judges wannabees like he does. He went through the very same process in his early years - and look where he is today! Read this book, understand the man and then you will know why he is right to be so acidic about the people who put themselves in his window. They don't have to be there, they choose to be and the knocks can only help them along the way if they have the determination to succeed, as Simon did. I could read this again and it would still be mesmerising. I loved they way this book was written and found it hard to put it down. Read it, absorb it and understand Simon, the Man (not just the Judge)even more.

4.0 out of 5 stars great mix ..., 26 Sep 2006
I am a bit late to read this book but it was well worth it. You can race through it and and there is a really good mix between the personal life and the business life - and the business part is especially interesting. Simon explains how he really just went for things, often fearlessly. He comes over as a risk taker, which means that however much he might annoy you he has to be admired and probably deserves all his money. Another update after X factor and America has to come out soon I hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest Look at the Music Industry. Fascinating., 10 Jul 2005
By Trey Mercartné - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This is one of the best biography books I have ever read. Fact. Simon Cowell delivers a fascinating read that brilliantly crosses between stories from his own life and facts about the music industry. Both aspects are very well presented and I found them both to be very entertaining and, in places, totally fascinating.

The secret to the books success is it's blatant honesty. True to the on screen personality we have grown to love to hate, Cowell is brutally honest about every aspect of his life and the industry. For the "Pop Idol" fans he even gives a professional critique on each of the Final 50 performers from the programme which is yet another highlight of this brilliant read. In addition, he also talks very candidly about what will help aspiring performers to break the market and realise thier dreams. He manages to avoid all cliche's like "Belive In Yourself and You Can Achieve Anything" e.t.c and gives a very honest response to the all imporant question - "How Can I Become A Popstar?".

This is a really fantastic read, there can be no doubt. It will appeal to a wide variety of readers. Even if you don't like "Pop Idol" but are interested in the music biz, or celebrity culture in general terms this is a very insightful and interesting book. I would highly recommend it to anyone that's interesting in the music industry and to anyone who ever heard one of Cowell's critique's on "Pop Idol" or "X Factor" and thought "He's right - you know.".
