5.0 out of 5 stars Unrivalled pictorial guide to Alis life., 18 Oct 2002
By A Customer
This fantastic book truely is a celebration of Muhammad Ali as one of the most charismatic and famous sportsmen in the world. The book is based on interviews with the man himself as well as his family, friends, trainers and opponents and every page features stunning, black & white photography, much of which is rare or has never been published before.

The book covers Ali's childhood in Louisville and charts his rise to fame. It focuses on the most famous fights including the 'Rumble in the Jungle' fight with George Foreman. The book also explores the reasons behind his conversion to Islam and his cultural influence as a contemporary icon.

One of the best aspects of the book is the fact it features a complete photographic record of every professional Ali fight from 1960-1981.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb tribute of one of sportings greats, 30 Jan 2003
By SHARON ROSEN (LONDON, ENGLAND) - See all my reviews
This tremendous book is more than a simple biography but is a fantastically detailed account of Ali's career, with some of the most rare and savage boxing pictures ever. Everything that you could want to read about one of the most influential sporting personalities is here; from his childhood to his ring career
(each and every fight is covered in sufficient detail and his most famous ones in considerable detail) to his personality to his relationships with people around him including the media and to his debilitating illness.
Do not be put off the price as you undoubtadely get your money's worth for the best boxing book and one of the best sporting books that I have ever read. The glossy paper has pictures actually combined with the written accounts rather than the usual action of placing them all together in the middle. They truly are teriffic giving an excellent insight into what he had to endure in the ring and the book is worth buying for the pictures alone. All in all it is a fine book that can be read many times and reveals Ali's ability not just as a boxer but as a man and the cultural influence he had on his country and on sport in general. This book glorifies one of the most influential and fascinating characters in sport, and will always have a place on my bookshelf.
