Synopsis
The Scots are not alone in thinking Scotland the most beautiful part of the British Isles, from the cosy, domesticated Lowlands to the rugged Highlands and Islands, from its vibrant and cosmopolitan cities to its great castles and stately homes. Jason Hawkes' breathtaking photographs capture from a unique angle the huge variety Scotland has to offer, with dramatic views of landscape, moorland, forests and lakes, as well as the glories of Edinburgh and Glasgow, and historic sites like Traquair House, the standing stones of Callanish, and Cawdor Castle.

Most Helpful Customer Reviews   19 of 22 people found the following review helpful: Rather disappointing., 1 Nov 2001 By A Customer Although there are some excellent and visually stunning photographs I was expecting many more pictures of the Scottish mountains and certainly an equal coverage of Scottish regions. Instead I found there were too many town pictures and too many arty-type (referred to as Patterns of Nature) of photographs that could have been taken anywhere - flat green fields, cut-off bits of sands and sea etc. Why some photographers insist on showing off in this way and detracting from the main theme I really don't know! There are no photographs of that most beautiful region, Dumfries and Galloway (Robbie Burns would turn in his grave) and little reference about any of the Border regions. By portraying a balanced photographic view of all the various areas of Scotland this book could have been really good.
