Product Description

Susan Jeffers, author of the world-renowned classic of personal development Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, along with Donna Gradstein, now show parents and care-givers a very effective way of building confidence in children. They present 50 heart-warming stories showing children ages 3 to 7 "handling" many difficult situations that confront children today - such as teasing by other children...or losing a favorite toy...or fear of the dark...or upset about a parent's divorce...and much more."No matter what happens, I can handle it!" is the powerful phrase that is repeated throughout. Ultimately, as the various stories unfold, the child learns that ALL difficulties in life can be handled in a powerful and loving way. The I Can Handle It lesson is made even more effective by the excellent guide for parents that Susan presents at the beginning of the book. She demonstrates how the stories can provide a wonderful springboard for creating meaningful communication with our children. At a time when parents are often inundated with contradictory information about what we should or should not be doing, I Can Handle It provides a refreshingly easy way to engage with and empower our kids. And, as an added benefit, as we teach our children they can handle anything that comes their way, we teach ourselves as well. A wonderful lesson to learn at any age!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing spectacular, 13 April 2003
By A Customer
Reasonable, but not astonishing. We'd already deployed most of the tactics in this book - from pure common sense. Nonetheless, in some respects in reinforces views and perhaps gives a new angle to them. Average.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book to share with your children, 20 Mar 2003
My wife, Donna, and I love this book. We have five kids and have been married 32 years. We wish we had "I Can Handle It" when our kids were little. But the good news is that we do read this beautiful book every night. We read it to our 6-year-old baby girl, Cassidy O'Brien Casey, our granddaughter whom we are raising. Every night, Cassidy says to me, after dinner, "Papa, it's time to read the 'Handle It' book!" And we do. She goes to school the next day armed with all your wisdom. Donna has taken the book to work and she has about ten colleagues and friends in a frenzy wanting to get the book for their kids. Susan, thank you for writing it. It has given us much pleasure and is a conduit of love between our baby-girl and us.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Can Handle It, 26 Nov 2002
By A Customer
I cannot recommend this book highly enough! I like the way it is made up of various stories/scenarios that kids find themselves in and then provides a positive approach to dealing with them. I think adults would also find that Dr Jeffers book provides them with useful tools for difficult situations. I certainly find that when I come up against something unfamiliar or uncomfortable, the mantra "I Can Handle It" helps me to deal with it. I will definitely be buying several copies for my friends and their children!
