Product Description

Product Description

Before Jonathon Savill met Richard Smedley, he weighed 19 stones. He was 42, lazy and incredibly unhealthy with a 42' waist. A year and a half later, he boasted a 34' waist and could run for an hour without stopping. "No More Mr Fat Guy" shows how you can turn your life around in the same way. What makes his programme so different is that it shows you how to acquire a healthier lifestyle through sensible eating and exercise that will keep your weight down infinitely. Now fully updated, it advises on what type of foods are most suited to your body's physiology; what to eat when; how to calculate how much you need each day; rules you have to observe such as eating all your carbohydrates early; how to use exercise as a tool to help you loose weight; and, how to cope when eating out or in a social situation and even contains mouthwatering recipe suggestions. If you would like to feel fitter and younger, wear clothes that look like they did on the rail, you can. Even the longest journey begins with a single step. In this case, it begins with a single book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written, informative guide to losing the lard. Buy it!, 10 Dec 1999
Let's face it, a lot of us past our mid twenties (and a worrying number who aren't) carry a little bit more weight around than we might like. Whether it's expense account lunches, less time to exercise because of the family or simply developing large bones all of a sudden a lot of men are overweight.

This book provides a lot of information in an informative way and in my opinion treads a good path between giving you the info without being deadly dull. It also dispels a number of myths and makes it clear that long term benefits can be gained if you make sensible eating and exercise part of your routine.

The book is co-authored by Jonathon Savill and Richard Smedley. Jonathon, a journalist, was 19 stone before meeting Richard but at the end of 6 months had shed 8 inches off his gut, cycled 55 miles, swam a mile and a half and climbed a mountain. He doesn't mention roller skating along a beach being pulled by two dalmations to a Dr Alban tune but you can't have everything.

Richard Smedley who supplies the exercise expertise is an ex Parachute regiment officer and now a personal trainer to movie stars like Daniel Day Lewis (Last of the Mohicans not for my Left Foot I hope)and Pearce Brosnan. He clearly knows his stuff and if you are really keen on his style of exercise he is also the featured personal trainer in Men's Fitness magazine.
