Product Description

Product Description

Dyslexia is a common diagnosable condition that is estimated to affect at least one child in ten. In its most usual form it is manifested as a difficulty in learning to read and write, but it is widely misunderstood and often mistaken for low intelligence or even laziness. Dr Beve Hornsby combines her experience as a psychologist, teacher and speech therapist in this informative and reassuring book for parents and teachers of children suffering from a disability no-one can see or understand, and offers advice on how to identify, tackle and eventually overcome dyslexia. Includes up-to-date information on Attention Deficit Disorder and the relevance of the latest Education Act.

About the Author

Professor Beve Hornsby was one of the great pioneers of the Dyslexia movement. A Chartered Psychologist and Speech Therapist, she was formerly Head of the Dyslexia Clinic at St Bartholemew's Hospital and Principal of the Hornsby International Dyslexia Centre in London.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book to take you through all the stages, 2 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This is a great book which works through all the stages from recognising dyslexia to types of treatment, help from professionals, ideas to try, Really good value for money. It is easy to read (I'm dyslexic myself) and I always reach for it when I have had a battle at school over my daugther's problems. Worth buying for a teacher who does not understand the whole implications dyslexia can create.

3.0 out of 5 stars very instructive and informative, 1 Nov 1999
By A Customer
At last I can understand what dyslexia is all about. I received detailed information in an easy to comprehend format, written for the lay person to understand. It takes the reader through the array of types of dyslexia, and gives some indication about possible teaching and therapy which may help. Unfortunately the information which I wanted (about adults with dyslexia) wasn't available, I have just found that my friend is dyslexic and wanted help and advice. Most of the information is geared around children, but you can not treat an adult the same as you would a child, so my search for appropriate information continues. However, I am pleased that I have gained a better knowledge of the condition, and at least have a good grounding to continue my"research"

5.0 out of 5 stars Parental Review, 7 Oct 2009
By Mrs. N. Sach-brian (Telford, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A great book to read for a better understanding of the issues surrounding dyslexia. It is easy to read, and understand. It offers practical advice, and help. I would probably have to say that as more is being discovered about the causes of dyslexia, and the complexities of dyslexia - this book is basic, and should be read along with more up-to-date books.
