5.0 out of 5 stars a must read history book for all who whant to know the truth, 14 Feb 2000
By A Customer
This book describes the rise and fall of the Thrid Reich out of the view of a young German who after he worked for Weimar Republican Chancellor von Papen became a soldier during the Second Wolrd War and was for a long time the adjudant of General von Mahnstein. His way of writing is unique and makes the reader dive into that period of time. The book also shows that not all Germans were Nazis and that there was a majority in the Army and the public who actually were against Hitler's plans from a very early stage.

It is too bad that this book is OUT OF PRINT and that you can only get it under the original German Title: "Die verdammte Pflicht"!

I hope someone will one day consider to re-print this master piece.

P.S. Alexander Stahlberg died recently (in 1997) in Germany
