2.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmm, Not so good., 30 Oct 1999
The book is introduced as being for those who don't need to be told how to coordinate the user interface, how to save files etc etc. but instead to skip over the obvious details and get to the point. Strange, then, that Chapter 2 explains the standard windows toolbar in three pages. Later on in the book three pages are used to explain classes and object programming.

What's that all about?

5.0 out of 5 stars If you want Delphi but not from Hello World this is for you!, 11 Mar 1999
By A Customer
This has to be one of the best programming books I've read. It's well laid out and very clear and concise: it's very easy to get what you want.

Rather than 'teach you Delphi from the very bottom in X days' this book assumes you know the basics of programming and just want to learn Delphi. You're not weighed down with basics, but are told the relevent details.

That 'page on integers' that other reviews here have mentioned is actually very relevant: do you know what the differences between longint, int, cardinal and byte are and how they can actually affect the whole working of your program in varying ways on varying versions of windows? (You'll be glad he told you when you used longint so that your wonderful program doesn't blow up on Win3.11 users!)

Not only is it a good jumping block for better things in Delphi, but it also acts as a fantastic programming aid. The layout of this book (together with it's great writing style) enables you to get the info that you want quickly.

If you don't want to bother with 'Hello World' and you know about the basics of programming then don't bother with all those Dummies and 21 Days books: get this and get straight to the point.

1.0 out of 5 stars The title has no relation to the content, 31 Oct 1998

The documentation that comes with delphi is better , more thorough and doesn't contain feeble jokes. And you don't have to spend any more money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good for programmer with light experience.
I read this book as a transition from VB to Delphi about a year ago while still in school. I thought it was excellent at the time, but in retrospect with the experience I have... Read more
