5.0 out of 5 stars An extremely useful reference source for anyone in business, 15 Feb 2002
By A Customer
I am one of those people who dips in and out of business management books, hoping to grab a quick reminder of the management tools I have used in the past. The annoying thing is that it often takes as long trying to find the right tool as it does to apply it to a particular application. Imagine my surprise (and delight), therefore, to find in this one book all the tools I normally use. What a useful reference source! Creative tools, analytical tools and more - all in one book. It also has a variety of guides to help me select the best tools for every application imaginable. My only gripe is that I have only had a paperback version for a couple of months now and already it is getting worn (is this a ploy to get the reader to buy more than one copy ?)

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of common sense, though well packaged..., 9 May 2004
By Jack Feeney-Author / Analyst (On a Space Orbit - SPACE) - See all my reviews
A good book though not the type of book one would read in one setting. It's works best as a reference book offering alternative methods and practices (many of which are highly practical) to common or ongoing management issues. Can management be taught? Don't think so, but it can always be improved upon and this is where this book works best. Useful too, for accountants or other professions who wouldn't know or need to know a whole lot about general/core management issues. There a lot of common sense in 'Tools for Success' but in management, common sense is not always that common. Good book altogether, easy to follow and well packaged/presented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good, concise overview for managers of all levels., 18 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This book epitimises what I like in a factual book, direct to the point facts presented in a clear manner. The book covers a vast array of business tools both succinctly and clearly, giving a good step by step approach. I would recommended it for senior managers through to business students. It not only gives an insight into 'how to' but also cuts through alot of the waffle that more traditional business books employ. It really picks out the wood from the trees and captures the essential core of concepts such as six sigma in one page, where others write whole books which fail to achieve this core task.

Each tool is covered by a common format, including a step by step guide, an example implementation, and pointers to further information. At the front end a couple of useful matrices highlight tools appropraite to different tasks within a business or product cycle. The tools are very generic and appropriate across a range of industries. Infact most use has come from picking tools from other industries and applying them to our problems. It has also helped us to cut through the waffle and understand exactly what services are being provided by our suppliers!

I'd say go and buy it, it'll be the best (and probably cheapest) business investment you'll make this year!
