Help, hope, and the tools needed for your lasting recovery from PTSD

The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Sourcebook helps you see that on the other side of your pain is recovery and growth. Dr. Glenn Schiraldi has provided tools for thousands of survivors to recover, grow, and find happiness. Now he gives you these same techniques for recognizing coping mechanisms. By dealing directly with the effects of a traumatic experience, you can finally find the healing you thought would never come.

From the Back Cover

The Definitive Resource for Trauma Survivors, Their Loved Ones, and Helpers

Trauma can take many forms, from witnessing a violent crime or surviving a natural disaster to living with the effects of abuse, rape, combat, or alcoholism. Deep emotional wounds may seem like they will never heal. However, with The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Sourcebook, Dr. Glenn Schiraldi offers a remarkable range of treatment alternatives and self-management techniques, showing survivors that the other side of pain is recovery and growth.

Live your life more fully-without fear, pain, depression, or self-doubt

  • Identify emotional triggers-and protect yourself from further harm
  • Understand the link between PTSD and addiction-and how to break it
  • Find the best treatments and techniques that are right for you

This updated edition covers new information for war veterans and survivors with substance addictions. It also explores mindfulness-based treatments, couples strategies, medical aids, and other important treatment innovations.

Glenn R. Schiraldi, Ph.D., has served on the faculty in stress management at the Pentagon and the University of Maryland. He is the author of several articles and books on mental and physical health. He serves on the board of directors of the Depression and Related Affective Disorders Association.

5.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive look at the causes of PTSD and how to treat it, 11 Aug 2008
By Rolf Dobelli "getAbstract.com" (Switzerland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Some people's lives are picture-perfect, filled with sunny days, starry nights and happy weekends. The good times just keep on coming. For post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) victims, things also go on forever. Over and over, they mentally relive their most traumatic experiences in a continuing nightmare. PTSD is insidious. First you are the victim of severe, unspeakable trauma. Then, like a ghost, the trauma comes back to haunt you. Many associate PTSD only with combat veterans. However, almost any severe, stressful event can cause PTSD, be it rape or assault, abuse, a natural disaster, a terrorist attack or an accident. PTSD is a deadly, serious problem that plagues its victims. Fortunately, it does not have to be a life sentence. Treatment is available and recovery is possible, as Glenn R. Schiraldi explains in this thorough sourcebook. In fact, he states firmly that PTSD is curable with the proper therapies. If you or someone you care about suffers from PTSD, getAbstract thinks this book could be useful, helpful and encouraging.

1.0 out of 5 stars No help, 3 Jul 2009
By Glenn "Glenn Jensen" (Copenhagen, Denmark) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Although describing the disease PTSD, the solutions offered in the book did not help me at all. It endorses professional help, and after reading the "Sourcebook" I had more questions than answers. Besides, it is aimed at US readers. The section with where to find help only refers to North American sources.
