5.0 out of 5 stars The elephant bites back, 15 Jan 2008
Whether or not there is an urband legend quoted in this book, the point is the same: that one can waste a lot of time and effort on a bad idea. The content of the book is very powerful and useful. It is a solid book on practical thinking, unlike the many fad books one can find today. It has helped me immensely in working through problems associated with new ideas, moving ideas into real projects, and problem solving in general. I enjoyed it very much. It is fun, well written and accessible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your usual productive thinking book, 15 Jan 2008

A little tired of the advice to "think out of the box" when in fact your boss only buys the thoughts that come "inside the box"?

This book is a practical step-by-step guide that helps you develop, refine and hone in on the ideas that will work, instead of simply blue-skying.

In a sea of smarmy feel-good, creative-thinking tomes, this book hits the right balance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The truth in fiction , 16 Jan 2008
By K. C. Byron (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The reviews of this excellent book now begin to reflect the content of the book more accurately - ie one questionable reference set against many supportive ones describing a large volume of very useful factual material. The mistake of using an urban myth to illustrate an idea is venial though we should ask why it was missed by so many readers. Maybe it is because we immediately relate the kind of experience described in the space-pen story to our own life - this 'confined thinking' happens often in more every-day contexts. This is the author's intention - for us to see and experience our own thinking and learn to 'Think Better'. How often do we seek a more complex solution to a problem when elegance and simplicity are staring us in the face ? Tim diagnoses this tendency accurately in his book irrespective of the ways he illustrates it.Deferring judgement until more facts are available appears to be one way to avoid confined thinking and applies equally to writing book reviews.
