Book Description

In the ultracompetitive dot.com world, few Web sites have become household names. eBay is one that is not just a success story, it's a sensation. The site, which is used by over 50 million people in 27 countries, projects an annual revenue of $1.1 billion for this year alone. What makes eBay so successful? It lets everyday people realize the dream of becoming an entrepreneur--and all from the comfort of home. Even the busiest of people can easily sell their antiques, collectables, clothes, and even handmade crafts to people all over the world.

For some, selling on eBay and other online auction sites is a way to supplement their income or an extension of an established retail store; for others, it's a fulltime job. And anyone who wants to sell successfully needs to know not only the basics steps for selling online, but also the strategies that will consistently get them the highest bids and happiest customers. How to Sell Anything on eBay takes online entrepreneurs step-by-step through every stage of the process and includes several pictures from the Web to illustrate each step.

Dennis Prince, who has authored four books on online auctions and written articles on making money through online auctions for publications such as Bottom Line and Entrepreneur Magazine, offers tried and true methods and the latest strategies on topics like:

  • Getting registered and setting up your About Me page
  • Knowing the best time of week and time of year to sell
  • Phrasing auction listings in enticing ways
  • Picking the items that bring the biggest price
  • Dealing with people who don't pay
  • Understanding various shipping methods
  • Pushing profits with sharper digital photos
  • Building credibility with positive feedback
  • Dealing with international customers
  • Setting up a storefront Web site for customers to reference
  • Choosing the strongest categories

How to Sell Anything on eBay equips anyone with a computer and goods to sell with the comprehensive knowledge they need to become successful online auction entrepreneurs.

5.0 out of 5 stars great ebay reference, 2 Mar 2004
By steve w (Flitwick, Bedfordshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
A great book for ebay beginners and existing users alike.
The layout is perfectly divided into 4 parts which help guide you through the basics and subtleties of buying and selling and lead you through to methods for fine tuning a fully fledged ebay auction business.
There is advice on what to sell and where to find your inventory and the key methods involved in maximising your sale price for even the smallest and unllikeliest items within your stock.
If your interested in getting started, refining your ebay technique or attempting to join the auction big league then this book will help.

3.0 out of 5 stars another ebay book..., 18 May 2005
By A Customer
There are so many ebay books out there now. So many. How to choose between them? As a complete ebay novice I've read a few of them and they basically say the same thing (as you might expect), with only a few significant variations in style and presentation. It's the information itself that counts.

So if you're thinking of getting this one, then fair enough, there's little I can add to the other reviews here apart from a couple of quibbles which might help you. Here goes: I would say that this book seems to be a bit old now as some of the information is out of date. Also, it's not a UK specific guide, and as there are differences between the US and UK ebay sites you might want to look elsewhere if that's what you need. Otherwise perfectly adequate for the beginner.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!, 13 Sep 2004
By A Customer
As an Ebay novice, for me this book was a real godsend! Although the title sounded rather over-blown,(I didn't want to 'make a fortune' - just sell some stuff without it all going horribly wrong!) it is packed with information and is written in a very user-friendly way. The book is easy to browse through at ones leisure but also makes it easy to find answers to specific questions quickly. Before reading this book, I was seriously doubting my ability to sell items on Ebay. Having bought it a week ago and followed the advice held within, I have now sold my first items (for a very unexpected profit) and feel that the world of Ebay is now my oyster - THANKS DENNIS!
