Product Description
Synopsis
This is not your father's wedding...Congratulations on your engagement, my clueless friend, and welcome to a world for which you are sadly ill equipped. You have entered a new dimension. A dimension of china patterns, ice swans, and boutonnieres. You're planning a wedding, and your fiancee expects more from you than a diamond ring and a blood test. So, you'd better get up to speed - and fast. From the best proposal to the coolest honeymoon, "The Clueless Groom's Guide" offers light-hearted commiseration, guidance, and a distinctly male take on the entire process of planning a traditional wedding. It gives you a sorely needed chuckle and some surprisingly useful advice to help you get through the many decisions your bride-to-be will pretend to want your opinion on, including: how and where to pop the question - and when to cue the mariachi band; why engagements of over two years are justified only by extended commitments to the armed forces and/or unusually long jail sentences; how to pick groomsmen gifts and groomsmen who almost deserve them; reception sites that offer style and originality...and why you should avoid them like the plague; and far more than you should ever rightly know about weddings.

3.0 out of 5 stars There are probably better books available. But..., 9 April 2008
By AquaViola (Nottingham) - See all my reviews
This chatty book takes one through 21 different aspects of the proposal and (mostly) the wedding.

I found the first 2 sections, about "The Proposal" and "The Ring" the most useful, because, as a man, I had no clue whatsoever about rings, and there were some good principles about the proposal.

The remaining sections talk about different aspects of the wedding, such as the Reception Hall, the Vows, the Music, and the Food and Drink, all of which I had a clue about. However, the book is far from opinion-less, and its opinions tend to cost you money, and any wanting to save is denounced using false similes - for example, not having an open bar at the wedding is compared to requiring your guests to pay for the food, and inviting people to the wedding and the evening but not the afternoon food results in "See if you can look at yourself in the mirror".

Overall, a moderately funny book, and gives some interesting talking points. Just don't confuse the author's views with the only way you can plan a wedding.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful resource but too chatty, 17 Mar 2008
This book contains some useful chapters and advice. Sections on the proposal and ring probably aren't relevant as those purchasing it are likely to already be engaged. While some points are useful I found that the use of primarily American slang and the informal, chatty nature of the book made me think of it as less serious to the point of putting me off reading it at times.
