Product Description

Review
"A short section of this work was published in article form in "Sport Aviation" magazine in February 1999. NASA picked up the article for their web site; it is used in several flight schools; and, has been translated into French and Spanish. Further, a New Zealand high school student won his science fair using Anderson's and Eberhardt's work. Wendell Piepgrass, Flight Training Coordinator (flight school): "Not being an engineer, I appreciate very much what you...are doing here, because being able to form visually based concepts is important...." "...this presentation...effectively and clearly puts a very complex subject into terms most persons with a technical interest can understand. I wish...this chapter were a prime requirement for airman certification.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure physics, no maths, 20 Oct 2003
As an aspiring aerospace engineer, I wanted to find out about the principles of flight as they are not covered in school. "Understanding Flight" explains the physics behind this phenomenon in a way that is really easy to understand, without being over-simplified. What I particularly liked about this book was that it didn't bother with any mathematical equations, and there were also plenty of diagrams, graphs and pictures to illustrate what was being explained. The only downside to the book was that these diagrams tended to be on a different page to the relevent paragraph.

4.0 out of 5 stars some more "sums" needed, 26 Dec 2008
By M. V. Fard - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Informing book, it helped get an offer from my first choice uni! The only thing is that was very few "sums". It describes the relation between lift air speed, but you have to figure it out from a half a page paragraph, when a little equation would have done the trick nicely. the good thing is they've left a big margin so i can scribble thing and help my self understand
