I must admit to finding this book quite use full from the standpoint of getting a Database up and running in a short space of time. The books style tends towards the more technical with little time spent explaining a lot of the source code used in the book. Saying that it does spend time explaining the basics of using mySQL and gives excellent examples of using both the phplib and the XML parser. By no means an exhaustive volume but for the PHP novice and beginner it's a good all-round purchase.

I'm afraid I'm not quite as excited about this book as Mr.Paganelli, there are so many spelling mistake's throughout the book. Spelling mistakes I can live with but when there are errors in the code too then thats a problem. Having said that the subject matter is very good, and David covers many worthy topics, if you have experience in programming PHP you should be able to battle through. If you are a beginner I wouldn't bother it might put you off the very excellent PHP.

David Medinets's book is a good overview of the basic subjects involved in Intranet and Internet development from the PHP standpoint. Without loosing himself in details he shows the way to face real-world programming issues. The book is useful to professional programmers that have a good knowledge of WEB technology and need a start text on PHP3. The given Internet resources list and the CD-ROM are important additions.
