Product Description

Product Description
This is a wireless textbook aimed at telecommunications management undergraduate and graduate programmes. It is intended to follow a basic telecommunications course, and be accessible to anyone who has some basic knowledge.

About the Author
Paul Bedell has an M.S. degree from one of the leading programs of its kind in the United States, the Telecommunications Management program at DePaul University in Chicago. In 1995, Bedell designed and has since taught the cellular and wireless course at DePaul University, the newest course in that program. Bedell is currently Manager of Data Network Planning and Engineering at Ameritech Communications in Chicago. Previously, Bedell spent five years working in the wireless industry for three leading wireless carriers, both cellular and PCS. He spent two and a half years as a Network Engineer for U.S. Cellular, the seventh largest cellular carrier in the United States. During that time, Bedell designed and engineered fixed and interconnection networks that, geographically, spanned about 65% of the country. He then moved on to Primeco Personal Communications, working out of their Regional Chicago office as he built out their entire prelaunch fixed network for the metro portion of the Chicago MTA. Bedell then moved on to Aerial Communications, sister company to U.S. Cellular. There he designed and built out AerialsÕs initial, prelaunch wide area network (WAN), which connected AerialÕs eight MTAs to its Network Operations Center (NOC) in Tampa, Florida. This network supported internal systems traffic such, as call detail records, internal e-mail, internal voice, and network management traffic for both Information

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have book for understanding wireless services, 2 Sep 1999
By A Customer
Bedell's book is the perfect go-between bridging the complex technologies behind wireless communications and the practical essentials of concern when deploying wireless as a business. While the book is crammed with detail, the author's tone and style make it remain easily digestible. You would be hard pressed to find this quality of information presented so readily elsewhere. There is something for everyone. Engineers would learn caveats like the application forms necessary to erect an antenna while business people receive a lesson on the finer points of directional gain. This breadth is one of the considerations that makes Cellular/PCS Management so special. As a practitioner in this vibrant industry, I credit this book with helping round out my knowledge tremendously. I am confident it will serve you as well.
