2.0 out of 5 stars Ok but definately not for the beginner., 10 Jan 2001
By A Customer
I must admit that I found this book a bit hard going and found it hard to stay awake during the reading of it. I would definately not call this an administrators guide. It spends an awfull lot of time discussing the theory rather than the setup. If I were a beginner in using Firewall-1 I would definately NOT feel confident in using it after reading this book. The author certainly knows his stuff but seems to want to spend a lot of time going into the internals rather than giving a clear explaination of how to do it. The text is very confusing and in his examples he does not show how he actually got there or exactly what it is supposed to be doing. I was hoping for a book that I could pass on to other members of my team who had very little experience of Firewall-1 but I am afraid that this is not the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money, 11 Jul 2001
By A Customer
Who ever saw FW-1 and who ever read this little thin booklet that comes with FW-1 knows more about FW-1 than after reading this book. This book is a waste of money. It is unorganized and just another phrased form of the original FW-1 Manual. Marcus Concalves showed again his very low knowledge of security and Firewalls (and here particular FW-1).

3.0 out of 5 stars Good guide to FireWall-1 and an overview of security issues, 11 Jan 2000
This first half of the book is devoted to an explanation of the version options within CheckPoint FireWall-1. There are a number of screen shots and the subjects are well explained.

The second half of the book details many of the security issues faced by a FireWall administrator. These can be quite difficult to understand if you are new to the technology like myself, however I feel I will be going back to this and looking up details in this section as I become more envolved with FireWalls.
