Product Description

Book Description
Jim O'Brien's Introduction to Information Systems 11/E has been thoroughly revised to reflect the movement toward enterprise-wide business applications. All real world case studies have been updated to correspond with this movement as well. The text's focus is on teaching the general business manager how to use and manage the most current IT technologies like the Internet, Intranets, and Extranets for electronic commerce and enterprise collaboration, and how IT contributes to competitive advantage, reengineering business processes, and decision making. The coverage of security has been boosted in this edition to respond to increased threats of computer crime. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Publisher
E-Business focus emphasized throughout in each chapter and the real world cases but especially in new Chapter 8-Electronic Business and Commerce.
New Chapter 2-Competing with IT is a major revision and has been moved up to the front of the book to emphasize the importance of using IT for strategic advantage.
Discussion of the latest developments in ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), data mining and warehousing, enterprise portals, and other hot topics in IT are included in the appropriate chapters.
All New Real World Cases and Additional Real World Cases: This is the O'Brien trademark. All cases are from 2000 sources, making this the most up-to-date 2001 c/r textbook in this market. O'Brien includes cases that are current illustrations of industry practice directly related to concepts discussed in each chapter. There are 4 cases per chapter.
E-Tutor: A student CD-ROM, based on text content, includes animations, video clips and other multimedia components to serve as an additional learning resource.
Chapter-Opening Real World Cases: These cases fall right at the beginning of each chapter to immediately illustrate to students the chapter's concepts in real world settings.
Hands-on Application Exercises: These assignments in Chapters 2-11 require the use of database and spreadsheet software or the Internet to solve a business problem. The database and spreadsheet student data files are provided on the text's OLC for downloading.
Five-area framework: An O'Brien trademark, the framework organizes the IS knowledge a business student needs to know into 5 components'Foundation Concepts, Information Technologies, Business Applications, Development Processes, and Management Challenges'that correspond to the modules of the text. The framework has been revised for the 10E to better and more easily communicate the areas of IS knowledge.
Strategic, International, Ethical Dimensions of IS: The 10E dedicates individual chapters to these important topics, but also weaves them into every chapter through the real world cases.
In-text real world examples: Included in every chapter, these additional vignettes illustrate chapter concepts with an application from a variety of industries and companies. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The book covers the topics of information systems. It is way overpriced.

2.0 out of 5 stars For an introductory book, it is okay, but repetitive, 30 Jun 1999
By A Customer
The book is very colorful and uses many graphs and tables to support the information. But, the authors are very repetetive and the organization of material is not logical. Topics seem not to be related, and it is wordy.
