Book Description
Prescott, Harley and Klein's 5th edition provides a balanced, comprehensive introduction to all major areas of microbiology. It was first published in the 1980s and defined the Microbiology course. It is known for its excellent coverage of medical microbiology, but also for its balanced approach. There are 11 parts to the book; the first 6 look at the foundations of microbiology, then it moves on to survey the microbial world and focuses on how microorganisms relate to other organisms and the environment. The book then turns to look at disease and pathogenecity. The final part of the book looks at food and industrial microbiology. It has a new chapter on Genomics (15).
It has been updated with the most modern coverage of microbiology and the reorganized sections and chapters give a better flow and give greater emphasis to microbial ecology. The illustration program has been revised - every piece of line art has been re-evaluated.
