5.0 out of 5 stars Rerelease, Handle with Care, 7 Dec 2002

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Eden Burning I found to be a quite entertaining and well writen portrait of two people falling in love. (The only distracting thing, is if you know the dates for the eruptions that are talked about in the book, with modern periphenalia superimposed.) The hero, Chase, is a vulcanologist, and Nicole is a talented artist and scientific illustrator. She meets Chase when he comes to Hawai'i to save his married younger brother Dane, from the clutches of a homewrecker, namely, Nicole. Dane however tries to set Chase up with Nicole, with neither realizing what is being done.

Chase has divorced a woman two years ago who was only after his money, and manage to get full custody of their daughter in order to keep money coming in from her ex. Nicole came to Hawai'i after a difficult marriage. Her husband left her when her family lost their wealth.

All of the characters are fully fleshed out, so that there is reason and motivation for the actions of all the people involved. Chase's daughter Lisa, plays a key role in the book, and acts as much more than a plot device. She has been wounded by her own mother's rejection, and watching Chase and Nicole try to deal with their feelings for each other while not damaging the little girl is almost heart-breaking.

I enjoyed this book, and was sorry to see it end. Who cares if it is essentially a reprint.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book - but be careful!, 29 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Eden Burninglp (Paperback)
This is an excellent story that will capture you attention from the first page and hold it until the last. The characters are well written and three dimensional, so that you really care what happens to them and their motivations are well explained so that you understand why Chase initially behaves as he does. The writing is powerful and emotional and I found myself with tears in my eyes when Nicole discovers Chase's betrayal.

If you like Elizabeth Lowell's other books, you are sure to enjoy this one. However, as with many of her others, this book is an expanded re-release of her original 1986 Silhouette story, 'Fires of Eden', it isn't quite the same but it is very similar and if you already have FoE, you might want to think twice about buying this book.
