5.0 out of 5 stars read it in one go - loved it to bits!, 3 Dec 2005
This review is from: Ella Enchanted (Paperback)
Ella enchanted was absolutley BRILLIANT! i was engrossed from the very first page, and i read the book in one go it was so good.
Ella was given the gift of obedience by the stupid fairy, Lucinda (who's gifts also include being turned into a squirrel), when she was a baby. She must obey everything anyone tells her, from giving away her mother's valuable necklace to breaking up with her best friend. It is physically impossible for her to disobey!
Soon, her evil stepsister Hattie realises that she can make Ella do whatever she tells her to, and Ella ends up as a scullery maid. She is even forced to leave her beloved Prince Char! Looks like Ella needs some help from her fairy godmother...
Will Ella and Prince Char be together again? Will Ella ever be free of her curse? I stayed up all night reading, i was so desperate to find out!
I would recommend Ella Enchanted to anyone who wants a really good read, but particularly girls aged 12-15. It is the best book i've read all year, and you won't be wasting a single penny by buying this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The new Cinderella, 5 July 2004
This review is from: Ella Enchanted (Paperback)
My only comment is WOW, you have to read this book. Its a new age cinderella with a twist. Ella is cursed from birth so that she has to do whatever people tell her to, god could you imagine!
Well Ella hates this, but then she meets the gorgeous charming Prince Char and falls in love with him (i even fell for him), in this stories you see the up and downs of this young girls' life and love. Once i started reading this i could'nt put it down.
You can relate to the characters so much coming into there own and growing up, if your into a good romance with humor and exciting twists then this book is for you.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes a fairytale,a nd a happy ending!

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting book but too difficult for 3rd graders, 2 Feb 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ella Enchanted (Turtleback)
While the book stated that the reading level was for ages 8 and up, my third grade girls book club (all kids who were 8) found the book way to difficult to read on their own. Most of us read it to our children. The plot was very good the second half of the book, but the first half was slow, with lots of difficult vocabulary and the story got confusing at points. So in the end I thought the book was okay but was really geared toward 11 year olds.
