Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The daring claim of the title is a lot to live up to and Haney works hard to meet the challenge by focusing on the most essential part of the game--the swing. The book's 10 chapters are divided into three sections: "Understanding Your Swing," "Fixing Your Swing" and "Using Your Swing." Throughout, the secret at the core of his teaching should inspire in most golfers a sigh of relief: it's not how good the swing looks that matters, it's how well that swing strikes the ball. Through clear text and photo aids, Haney helps you understand the basic requirements of each shot well enough to fix mechanical problems without winding up in traction. He certainly helped Mark O'Meara, raising him from near oblivion to 1998 champion in both The Masters and the British Open. --Jeff Silverman

5.0 out of 5 stars The book I wish I'd had 30 years ago, 16 Aug 1999
By A Customer
This could be the definitive modern instruction manual. Having read all the famous books from Ernest Jones to Hogan to Leadbetter and a lot of others in between, there is a lot of room for confusion. This book cleared the fog for me.

Two things in the book are revelations: the body versus hands section and the discussion of the importance of the plane. I now feel for the first time in 30 years of golf that I have the comprehension framework to fix my own swing, slowly but surely, rather than trying this and trying that. Because it takes so long to get the feel for a swing change, unless you're on the right track, you can spend a whole golfing lifetime in the wilderness, going from one teacher to another, knowing you should be playing better but never really getting there.

Thanks to this book, I can confidently analyse my own swing and, more importantly, know how to fix it.

I sincerely hope this book gets the recognition it deserves.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea - Bad Execution, 29 May 1999
By A Customer
I really wanted to like this book.

Hank Haney seems very approachable and down to earth in interviews and guest spots on The Golf Channel. Unfortunately, his new book, The Only Golf Lesson You'll Ever Need, is a bizzare mixture of information with some less than humble self promotion by the author.

Then again what do you expect for : The ONLY Golf Lesson you'll EVER need.

I only hope that the contributing authors did most of the writing. Perhaps Mr. Haney was too busy giving lessons to proofread the manuscript. I'm sure there was pressure to publish this book during the reign of Mark O'Meara as PGA Tour Player of the Year. Unfortuneatly, his ideas are poorly communicated in this work.

Perhaps Mr. Haney is a genius. He has the credentials. He could be the greatest living teacher of all time. He sure implies that in the book.

He comes across in the book as a self made pompous swing guru with poorly organized swing theory based on swing plane.

He has the answers. Too vertical a plane equals slice, too flat equals hook. Fix your plane and fix your swing. Thank you very much.

I hope this book is not an accurate representation of Mr. Haney's teaching style.

Thank God I didn't pay full price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book concise and easy to understand., 30 Aug 2006
He fairly bums himself up in the 1st chapter or two but he talks a lot of sence and presents his ideas well. The author has a degree in education and this is reflected in the books presentation. What lets a lot of golf books down is the clumsiness in the way they try to put across the information. Photography could be better but overall this book is more about how YOU swing the golf club and knowing what to do to make it better rather than a book telling you exactly how you should be swinging the golf club. Good enough for Tiger is good enough for me.
