This text is the sequel to "The Hero Within" and traces 12 archetypal patterns that can aid inner development and the quest for "wholeness" that is life's journey. The archetypes listed in this book are all inner guides that have "been with the human race since the dawn of time...coded in the genetic programming of the species". The author offers a deeper understanding of the journey and its pitfalls, confronting the suffering and loss that are as much a part of human development as victories that result in increased authenticity and power. Additional features include a chapter on gender and diversity within traditional archetypal patterns, a new look at addiction and recovery and a "heroic myth index" for recognizing the active archetypes in our lives. Also included are exercises for developing these archetypes and tapping into their power.

I have just read Awakening the Heroes Within, very powerful.

First, when it was recommended to me, I thought, oh no, another personality test book, full of clichés, but it's not! There is a questionnaire to determine what myths you live by, and it's not obvious, you don't get the feeling of being taken for a ride.

The author is not a cold psychologist, you can feel the witch doctor within! If you have liked The Celestine Prophecy or The Way of The Shaman, try Awakening the Heroes!

Whether you are young, in search of your identity, or in a midlife crisis, it can really help you in your quest. Are you an Orphan, a Warrior, a Lover, a Sage or one of the other eight archetypes? You also have exercises to develop your awareness and your strength.

A good investment!

This is without comparison the book that has had the most profound effect on me. I've been reading self-help books from Dalai Lama to Dr. Phil, but this is the only one where every single line rings true and sends you thinking: "Yes, that's exactly how it is! That's exactly how I feel."

Truly a life-changing book. You owe it to yourself to try it out.
