Product Description

Product Description

Exactly as the title describes: a new manifesto of-sorts, covering the entire, broad-ranging spectrum of the animal rights movement, from wearing leather and eating meat to animal testing and the use of animals in the entertainment industry. Smart and well-argued, it's animal rights for a new generation - easy to read, accessible, and packed with cartoons, celebrity-endorsements, and practical tips along with the serious facts and figures. Endorsed by renowned writers such as J. M. Coetzee and Gloria Steinem as well as pop culture icons and hot young musicians, this is the 'ultimate primer' for the whip-smart, socially committed, and sound-bite-soaked generation.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant!, 18 Jul 2008
By Liastra (London, England) - See all my reviews
This book is great! An excellent guide into the world of animal rights. The cartoons and illustrations make the difficult subject of animal abuse and exploitation easier to read. Packed full of information, Karen Dawn provides a thought provoking and passionate argument. I'm passing it along to all my friends, the vegetarians and the meat eaters too.

This book encourages compassion without boundaries, which is always worth thinking about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Animal rights forever!, 7 Nov 2008
By Jack Hobartson (The South of England) - See all my reviews
This is a really smart and intelligent read, which pretty much covers every angle of animal rights.

It's a nicely published book too. There are lots of interesting side-bits of information, with features on celebrities and some very amusing cartoons.

The book includes chapters on pets, animal entertainment, clothing, meat, vivisection, the environment and more.

I've read a lot of books about animal rights and vegetarianism (probably cause I am one) and this is right up there with classics such as "The Pig who sang to the Moon" and "The China Study".

The book really opened my eyes to a lot of animal right issues I hadn't been aware of, and provides a lot of good answers to the sort of questions meat-eaters usually ask you. It's written from an American stance, but that is a very minor quibble in a book as important as this.
