Product Description

Product Description
Arthur Rimbaud is remembered as much for his volatile personality and tumultuous life as he is for his writings, most of which he produced before the age of eighteen. This book brings together his poetry, prose, and letters, including "The Drunken Boat," "The Orphans' New Year," "After the Flood," and "A Season in Hell," considered by many to be his. "Complete Works" is divided into eight "seasons"--Childhood, The Open Road, War, The Tormented Heart, The Visionary, The Damned Soul, A Few Belated Cowardices, and The Man with the Wind at His Heels--that reflect the facets of Rimbaud's life. Insightful commentary by translator and editor Paul Schmidt reveals the courage, vision, and imagination of Rimbaud's poetry and sheds light on one of the most enigmatic figures in letters.

3.0 out of 5 stars but it's not rimbaud, 26 Oct 2000
By A Customer
and as good as it maybe, the reason rimbaud is the name he is today is the quality of the original poems not as a translation. find a copy with mathcing original texts and only get this if you fancy reading someones else's interpretation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting journey into the twisted mind of Arthur Rimbaud., 5 April 1999
By A Customer
A book for anyone who enjoys good writing. Filled with life and fantastic imagery, the only thing lacking in this collection are the original versions in French. Other than that, the translations are excellent, so much that one forgets that the poems were originally written in another langauge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rimbaud as a living imagination of life, 17 April 1999
By A Customer
I've read this book in Turkish. Then in English. I think Rimbaud is still the future of poetry. If you are looking for something to hold on to, you should have a look at this book. There is nothing but pure life, smell of the colors and eyes of the light which swows us the meaning. For we can make it bigger. That is what Rimbaud has done. That is what todays poetry and i am looking for i think.
