4.0 out of 5 stars Details of German U-Boat operations off the US coast, 24 Jan 2001
By A Customer
The author follows the progress of U-123 on it's two sorties against shipping off the east coast of America as part of Operation Drumbeat. The research is excellent, and includes the recollections of crew members and of survivors from some of the ships attacked by 123. The account goes into some detail on the failure of the US Navy to take any real action against the marauders for almost 6 months. The image of 123 picking off ships silhouetted against the brightly lit amusement parks of Coney Island would be almost unbelievable were it not a matter of record.

An excellent book, giving an insight not only into life aboard a U-Boat or aboard a target vessel, but also into the way politics and ego can have such an adverse effect on the progress of a war.
