4.0 out of 5 stars A fast reading first rate story, 2 Jan 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: The Reunion (Hardcover)
I picked this book up, knowing nothing about it or the author, but was drawn to one of the settings for the story -Edinburgh, as I was born and brought up there.I could not stop reading it once I had started, and it does read very quickly.I am always drawn to the concept of is someone "mad or bad" and can things that we do as children or teenagers really leave us when we move on,ostensibly older, wiser or having had therapy ! I also like the "what happened then and what's happening to them all now ?" aspect of the plot.It is a guilty pleasure of mine, this wondering what happened to all those people we knew in our youth and what are they doing now with their lives.
I would recommend this book wholeheatedly, but will not elaborate on the plot for risk of spoiling it.I am off to buy the new novel by Sue Walker, which in this time of thrillers and crime writers popping up everywhere, is quite a special thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly superb, 6 Oct 2005

The most gripping novel I have read in years.

Superbly paced and crafted. Creepy. Convincing characters. Don't agree with the other reviewer about the dialogue. I cannot recommend this book enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning first novel, 15 Sep 2005

This review is from: The Reunion (Paperback)
It's quite a long time since I have deliberately read slowly so as to prolong my enjoyment of a novel, but I am with The Reunion. I picked this book up becuase it had a recommendaiton from Karin Slaughter on the back comparing it to Val McDermid - I thought I couldn't go wrong and haven't. Locations are excellently evoked and all of the chracters (living and dead) are interesting and credible. The novel manages to weave the interactions between the attendees and staff at the Unit over 25 years ago with the current time very well. I look forward to much more from this author.
