5.0 out of 5 stars Must reading for anyone dealing with male adolescents!, 28 Dec 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Ironman (Hardcover)
High-school senior Bo Breswster drops off the football team, disappointing his English teacher/coach and his father. He wants to write for the school paper and swim instead with a coach he admires. He tries to explain but ends up battling with his football coach and his father, all of which lands him in a special anger management class at school, lead by Mr. Nak. The class is a collection of troubled, hostile, angry misfits all of whom turn out to be supportive and vital to Bo as he trains for and finally participates in the triathlon (to become the Ironman of the title). Training for sports, falling in love, confronting different sexual identities, tension between fathers and sons, child abuse, and racism are all dealt with in realistic, helpful context. This is real and should be required reading especially for fathers of adolescent sons. Crutcher clearly knows teens and sports!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great book!, 14 July 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ironman: A Novel (Paperback)
This book was extremely interesting! I was so absorbed in it, that I finished it the day after I found it! I am really glad I did find it, and am sorry I even hesitated to read it in the first place. Crutcher puts you right in Bo's shoes, and you feel like you have to stand by him right until the last words.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfull, 4 July 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ironman: A Novel (Paperback)
This book honostly and relistically captures real life situations and informs young adults about reality. Very few young adult authors are willing to do this. Congradulations!

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark and fun at the same time
This is an entertaining book, though Crutcher has the habit of throwing in every possible problem known to humankind because it's a young adult novel. Read more
