5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended book to curl up with!, 27 Sep 2004

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Catherine Ashfield, Viscountess Bickley, is a widow just out of mourning. When a close friend asked her, Lady Catherine was only too happy to assist with the publication of "A Ladies' Guide". She saw it as a quiet way to get a bit of revenge on a society which had turned its cruel back on her son, Spencer, due to his club foot. It was published under the name Charles Brightmore. Soon it seems as though every female has a copy of the scandalous book and the men are NOT happy at the changes in their women. But Lady Catherine never dreamed her involvement could put her life in jeopardy and force her to flee London in the company of a disarmingly attractive protector.

Andrew Stanton knew Catherine was hiding something from him, but playing the role of protector and friend helps him keep her close by. Andrew has no noble lineage. He is the best friend of Catherine's brother, but wishes only to court Catherine now that she is FINALLY out of mourning. But Catherine's marriage had been far from happy and she is determined never to remarry. Worse yet, she seemed to live by the crazy book that has all of town abuzz. Andrew is determined to subtly court her while playing his guardian role. And not only has Catherine captured his heart, but her twelve-year-old son has too.

***** Chalk up another best seller from renowned author Jacquie D'Alessandro! This author has yet to disappoint me in her enthralling romances! In fact, she seems to get better and better with every title she publishes. Every time I believe she can get no better, she proves me wrong. Highly recommended! *****

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read that just lacks that sparkle, 2 Jan 2005

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Catherine Ashfield, Vicountess Bickley had a bad first marriage to a man who along with the rest of the ton rejected his crippled son.
After her husbands death she helps assist a friend with the publication of 'A Ladies guide to the Pursuit of Personal Happiness and Intimate Fulfilment' - a scandalous handbook that has taken society by storm, loved by ladies hated by the men.
During a ball to celebrate her fathers birthday she is shot and injured forcing her to flee London for safety to her country estate in the company of her brothers best friend Andrew Stanton.
Andrew has loved Catherine for years and jumps at this opportunity to woo her, he befriends her son and follows the points in the guide to the point where Catherine can no longer ignore him.
But she knows little about this American who has invaded her life and he too has secrets. Secrets that could cause her the greatest danger.

This is a good read it just is not brilliant, partly because especially in the 2nd quarter there is that kind of description that does not hold your interest but has you wanting to skip ahead. That may not seem much but there is nothing else bad to say about it but there is nothing to rave over either
