5.0 out of 5 stars I feeel I Know what McVeigh was about this book is addictive, 30 Jun 2001
By william.mcdougall2@btinternet.com (Stranraer, Wigtownshire, Scotland) - See all my reviews
Once I started this book I found it impossible to put it down,as it allowed me to understand the thoughts and beliefs of a young man looking for a path in life. The tragedy is that he chose the wrong path and paid so dearly with all the suffering and pain caused for so many, I was compelled to follow this case as soon as the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was announced. Right up to and even after the execution of Timothy James McVeigh he stood by his beliefs, to which only a few can understand, but this does not mean that they share his views only to understand them, what this book did for me was just that, I feel real sorrow for all the poor people involved in this terrible episode including Tim McVeigh.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting read but the whole story?, 5 Jul 2001
By A Customer
I really enjoyed the book but I'm not sure if this is the absolute truth. Tim McVeigh came across as a complex man completely weighed down with his emotions and ideologies. The information on his childhood and life in prison were very interesting. I was also amazed at the list of his military achievments and how he went from being a model soldier to public enemy no. 1. I feel the book also makes you think about the American justice system and how quickly it turns on one of its opponents. Overall, I recommend the book as it gives a another perspective on a man who seems destined to remain an enigmatic but intriguing character.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping insight into the life of a mass murderer, 8 Jun 2001
By A Customer
With all the media frenzy surrounding recent events in McVeigh's impending death sentence, it seems we all know everything about the guy, but what is in the public domain is merely the tip of the iceberg. What has fascinated me more than anything else in this book is the detailed description of McVeigh's early life, his rise to become one of the U.S. Military's most highly regarded gunners, and his subsequent greivances with the government he once served under. I found it hard to avoid being intensely thrilled by the chapters of his life, and in some way experienced sympathy and compassion for the killer, if not complete understanding for his actions. This biography is well researched and well written - i would seriously recommend it to anyone.
