3.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite photography, but..., 4 Mar 2003
Having been brought up on Arthur Rackham and, more latterly, Brian Froud, I have always been fascinated by the myth and folklore around Faerie. Whilst I accept that I have been spoiled by the aforementioned, I admit to being a little disappointed by what, to all intents and purposes, should be a faultless collection of ethereal imagery.
The photography is stunning, although modern photo-manipulation software may have played a part, and there was some suggestion of the authors girlfriends and/or young relatives "dressing up" for the camera with lashings of fern fronds and green body paint.
I found the stories surrounding each "encounter" rang a little contrived, lacking the humour of Froud or the authority of a good storyteller, as if, having taken the nice picture, the author had to try and explain it. Whilst sweet in a family album, I actually tired of the words. This was, then, a missed opportunity to inform us more of Faerie.
Having said that, the pictures are nicely atmospheric enough and, if scanned, would make a pleasant enough archive for dressing up your web pages! Details of the actual locations may have enhanced the book and would certainly have had me out and about, if only to catch sight of some rather attractive lasses having fun in t'woods!

5.0 out of 5 stars special, 28 Nov 2001
By A Customer
... I had to buy it. The beauty of this book is its modernity. Most fairy books dwell on the ancient, but this is very beautiful and modern, well worth owning.

1.0 out of 5 stars quite deceiving, 19 Aug 2003
The photos look like a mix between a cosmetics advertisement and a flyer. This is really not about fairies! :-(
